What is Ultramaraton Fuego y Agua 50k-100k??

Ultramaraton Fuego y Agua 50k-100k is an extremely challenging race on Isla Ometepe in Nicaragua. The race begins in the port town of Moyogalpa. The course is a single loop encompassing most of the island and involves the ascent and descent of both volcanoes. Because of the volcanoes, the island holds several micro-climates of jungle, dry tropics, tropical beach, and cloud forest. The race course winds through singletrack, dirt road and sand as it passes towns, villages, coffee, cacao and banana plantations, cloud forest, volcanic trail and white sand beaches. The race begins with a pre-race meal the night before and ends with a post-race awards banquet.

Traverse Trail Running is gathering running shoes for the schoolchildren of Ometepe. Our goal is to begin cross country running teams on the island. Calzado para Ometepe 5k-10k is the first event and will be held in conjuction with the Fuego y Agua 100k.

Calzado para Ometepe 5k is open to islanders ages 8-12
5k overall winner receives a brand new mountain bike
Calzado para Ometepe 10k is open to islanders ages 13-16
10k first female and first male will receive a brand new mountain bike.

NOTE: REGISTRATION FOR CALZADO DE OMETEPE 5k-10k IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE SERVICIOS TURISTICOS IBESA OFFICE IN MOYOGALPA, ISLA DE OMETEPE.

Isla de Ometepe Pre-Race Trash Pickup Day

We are organizing an island wide garbage pickup day two days before the race. Island schools, businesses and municipalities are all excited about this event and are willing to participate.   Email or call us if you are interested in getting down here a few days early to be a part of this wonderful event.
